The philosophy behind Thundering Ground Bison Ranch is to raise bison in such a manner as to maintain their natural instincts and behaviours as much as a ranching situation will allow. Instead of me managing the bison I allow the bison to direct my management decisions. I am constantly observing bison both in ranch and natural settings and do not restrict myself to conventional practices. I also read and collect early literature on bison and have taken much of what was observed over 100 years ago to heart.

Together with preserving the bison as a species, the environment guides production practices just as much. As a rancher I am a steward of the land and I feel it is my responsibility to manage the land in a sustainable manner and ensure its health for the future. Many, many years ago Mother Nature paired the bison with the landscape and climate of North America.
